Pakistan Moves Troops To Border With India

Map of Pakistan
(New York) – Pakistan has started to move some of its troops based on the nations western border with Afghanistan and has asked that its soldiers stop going on leave due to the rising tensions it is facing with India on its eastern border. Senior Pakistani officials have cited the movement as a precaution “in view of the prevailing environment.”
Due to a lack of strong reliable sources within Pakistan we are currently unable to make an edcuated guess regarding the troop movments. Washington sources have told us that there is “no evidence of major troop movement” in Pakistan.
Gordon D. Johndroe, a White House spokesperson said, “We don’t want either side to take steps to raise tensions in an already tense situation.”
Ever since the terrorist attacks on Mumbai, tensions have reached high levels between the two nuclear neighbors. India has claimed Lashkar-e-Taiba is responsible for the attacks. India has been angered by an apparent reluctance to crackdown on Lashkar-e-Taiba despite what it considers overwhelming evidence to belive they were the attackers. Pakistan has said the evidence is not convincing enough.
Sources in the Pakistani government have claimed there is a small amount of troops being moved but that is simply because of the harsh winter weather, or because they are not currently involved in any operations.
According to Pakistani news, troops have been moved to the Pakistani controlled border of Kashmir and to Lahore which is only 20 miles from the Indian border.
Since 1947 India and Pakistan have already fought three wars, this history of violence between the two neighbors is only more alarming when one takes into consideration that both nations are armed with nuclear weapons.
The United States is alarmed at the recent actions and is worried that less troops on the Afghan border could mean that more terrorists would be able to cross between Pakistan and Afghanistan to combat NATO troops.
