Barack Obama’s Inauguration: Stories From The Mall

January 20, 2009
Millions on the national mall awaiting the inauguration of President Obama.

Millions on the national mall awaiting the inauguration of President Obama.

(Washington D.C.) – Today I along with a few other College Democrats joined the millions of Americans from every state stretching from the Capitol to the Lincoln Memorial. Within 5 feet were people from Florida, North Carolina, Connecticut, California, Kentucky and a multitude of other states. Even more impressive were the people from the Bahamas and the Netherlands.

Every race, color and creed was visible on the mall. After arriving around 1am there were plenty of people who were rich, poor, tired and eventually just a huddled mass. All of them telling us how they came with friends from South Africa and as far away as Australia. Everyone sharing stories about how Barack Obama’s election has personally touched them in a way no election ever has.

Singing songs together in unity to stay warm, loudly cheering for President Obama when he appeared on the jumbotron and quietly listening to pastor Rick Warren when he spoke to everyone.

Whether you were there in person, saw it at home on your television, saw it online at work, or listened to it on the radio this was a moment for the history books. From Los Angeles to New York to the forgotten corners of the world everyone will remember this moment. What did you make of this moment?

John McCain’s Campaign can’t Take the Heat

September 2, 2008

Remember a few years ago when John McCain would spend hours at a time sitting on the “Straight Talk Express,” explaining his policies in detail, answering whatever questions reporters had? McCain had a great relationship with the press–they loved him and he loved them back, when they would press him, he would answer and press back. It was refreshing.

Too bad that’s not around anymore. The new John McCain campaign isn’t tough enough to answer some honest questions.

Last night on the CNN program The Election Center, reporter Campbell Brown asked Tucker Bounds, a McCain campaign spokesman, some simple, honest questions about the national security and foreign policy experience of McCain’s running mate, Gov. Sarah Palin. Here’s the exchange: (more…)

Better Know a Vice President: Joe Biden

August 23, 2008

This is the first of the two part series “Better Know a Vice President” and in this installment we’re looking at Joe Biden.

Joseph Robinette Biden, Jr. is the Senior United States Senator from Delaware. He’s been in office since 1973 when he was 30 years old.

He’s the chair of the Committee on Foreign Relations. He is known for being a big name in international relations. Joe Biden spoke with Georgian President Mikhail Saakashvili after the Russian invasion a few weeks ago. He did vote for the Iraq war, however he alongside Senator Lugar wanted an amendment saying that military force will only be used after diplomatic efforts were exhausted and that military action would disarm Saddam Hussein, not overthrow him.

Senator Biden came out strongly with a plan to divide Iraq into a strong federal government along sectarian lines. His son is set to go to Iraq in October so this is an issue which is important to him.
He dropped out of the race for president after Iowa. He has run for president before, in 1988 and 2004. His 1988 campaign came into trouble when he was accused of plagiarizing a speech.

Where does he stand on the issues? Let’s do a quick rundown. (more…)

Joe Biden; your next Vice President

August 23, 2008

So it’s somewhat official. Joe Biden is Obama’s running mate.

CNN just confirmed around 12:45am EST that Joe Biden will be Barack Obama’s running mate. The official text that most of the country and the world is waiting for is supposed to go out in the early morning.

As of 12:51am Barackobama.com has no official word on the VP, and the campaign has yet to email it’s supporters or even communicate this to anyone.

Shortly after 2am NBC confirmed that Biden had accepted. They will appear Saturday in Springfield, Illinois.

Apparently CNN broke the news. This seems to be a smart choice for Obama because Biden could be used to attack John McCain and his running mate. Biden would not hold back on such an attack, this is something the democrats have lacked for some time, a VP who would attack like Dick Cheney.

Looks like Barack Obama held this secret long enough, Joe Biden is his VP. It’s going to be two senators. We’ll have an in depth look at Joe Biden later on today.

Who is Chet Edwards?

August 22, 2008

Recently there have been rumors that Representative Chet Edwards from Texas is in the running for Obama’s VP list. But who is Chet Edwards?

Well he was a Texas State Senator between 1983 and 1990.

He was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in 1990.

He endorsed Senator Obama in February for the Texas Primary in March.

He’s been called a moderate democrat, and he would appeal to the center and republicans.

Apparently House Speaker, Nancy Pelosi dropped his name as a good VP for Obama. He himself has said he would accept the nomination for VP if offered, and recently the rumors are that he is on the short list.

There will be a full report on the VP as soon as Barack announces who he or she is. As for now, we wait… as we all know, this is all only speculation. We just have to wait and see.

Obama/Edwards ’08?

Not the Edwards we all would of thought.

FYI: He’s President Bush’s Congressman.

Naughty Naughty Edwards

August 8, 2008

Fool me once shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me! Known as one of the, “good” lobbyists, John Edwards has proven to go down in flames as only politicians can.

Edwards admitted during an interview on Nightline last night that he was having an affair with one of his aides. Rielle Hunter was the aide who was paid some $113,000 for her work filming Mr. Edwards described him in a 2007 interview as “very real and authentic…inspirational to me” and someone who was “open and willing to try new things and do things in new ways”. I’ll let that quote speak for itself. The story of the affair first surfaced from a photo taken by the National Enquirer of Edwards holding Hunter’s 6-month old daughter at a Beverly Hills hotel.
